What did you do summers when you were a tween or teen?
MusingsfromMe

"Get off that screen!" I am finding myself saying this phrase more and more thiis summer. My girls are swimming each day. Doing school work. Doing chores. I would prefer that they go outside to play but find it hard to get them to go outside.

Enter the screen. Both hang out in their bedrooms playing on the laptop. The oldest chats to friends on Facebook, The youngest watches TV shows online. I find myself limiting screen time, but it is a struggle.

What did you do during summer vacation when you were a teen or tween?

Almost too long ago to remember what I did with my teenage summers, but I do remember golfing with my Dad, badminton in the backyard and bike rides to the library to feed reading needs.

I don't remember specific activities so much as just being with my friends every day. We would hang out or walk downtown...... keep in mind, I lived in a small, rural town. I do remember going swimming quite a bit, though. It seems as if hanging out with friends is now done via computer instead of in person. I think I like the old way better. :)

My kids are busy, TV for them is a luxury. They have so many things to do during the day, that even with summer vacation, they are always on the go. My mother in law is forever on my case, telling me to take it easy. But I am not forcing them to do anything, they know they could stop any time, they just don't want to, they have gotten used to the training and classes. As for Fourth of July weekend, I am staying home, we are going on a big family picnic, but I would never get out of the city. I live in LA, and traffic is already horrible on regular days, during weekends like this it is crazy.. I rather stay home take it easy, go to my picnic, and next weekend when everyone is home, my family and I are taking a trip to Palm Springs.. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend, and Happy 4TH of July..

The summer I was the age my daughter is, I went to Mexico with my best friend for a week. I have alot of fond memories of that trip. I had my first real boyfriend and I read alot of books. I don't remember much else. She is not going to Mexico, but she is reading a lot of books and also has her first real boyfriend....ugh. She stays up late and gets up late and is on face book alot. I am okay with that, it is a great way to stay in touch with her friends. She texts her boyfriend and best friend. I wish we had all the technology they have. I think I would have ejoyed my social life more had I been able to stay in touch with everyone over the summers.

If I'd had all the technology we have now I probably would have used it, but I don't know if that's good or bad. I feel like I was bored a lot because we were in such a small town.

I did spend much more time outdoors though. I do wish my kids were outside more than they are, but nowadays you can't let kids run all over town unsupervised . We were gone from morning til lunch, and then out again until dinner sometimes.
