Here's a winner for you! The Wisdom to Know the DIfference: When to Make a Change—When to Let Go by Eileen Flanagan. This is a book you can read through or use as a reference. Pivotal moment: You know the Serenity Prayer that goes, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference"? Well, Eileen Flanagan found the original, and I love that it's so much more nuanced--and asks for big picture help. As in, "God, give us grace to accept with serentiy the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things that should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other." Says Flanagan: "While 'wisdom to know the difference' is catchier, I appreciate Neibuhr's version, which implies that figuring out what we can and cannot change is a process, not a simple formula. It sounds more like discernment." And the book builds from there. Love it!
