Deoderant and the Smell of Boys
MusingsfromMe

I don't know how to put this... but little boys smell different to little girls. My son is 7 ...active at times, inactive at other times, Yet he has a distinctive smell. Smells a little sweaty, but not overwhelmingly so. He bathes/showers each day. He swims daily each day during the summer. But his sisters at the same age probably bathed every other day. I didn't notice his sisters' distinctive odor until they were teens.

Has anyone else noticed this with their young boys? Do young boys need to use deoderant sooner than girls? My girls started using deoderant at 11/12.

My son is 10, and this year we had to start having him use deodorant. It was a very strong body odor that I just couldn't take. I worried that it was too young as well. We keep it hush-hush because he's worried about his friends finding out. We struggled with finding one he liked, but discovered the Axe body sprays. They are a little expensive, but at least he'll use them.

If you can smell them, others can. You're doing them a favor, especially if you're diplomatic...cool and matter-of-fact. Also make sure they're changing their underwear everyday!

Musingsfromme, the smell will get worse! My son is 11 and has been wearing deodorant for 3 years. We should have purchased stock in whoever makes Axe as we've gone through a great deal of their sprays and shower gels. He has graduated to men's cologne and Right Guard, and the girls at school seem to like it.

My son has been wearing deodorant since he was 9.  His dr. mentioned that he needed it and that finally convinced him that mom was right.  He uses a natural/organic deodorant since he has skin allergies, he doesn't need to wear all those chemicals and perfumes.  Now that he's 11, he needs to reapply during the summer on active days, but I usually don't have to remind him.  Now if the rest of the boys in his class would discover deodorant, I hated doing lunch duty after P.E.  I told the teacher that they should rename it  P.U.

My son just turned 13 and I swear he starts to smell bad an hour after he gets out of the shower.  I think it is a natural part of development.  All of his friends smell terrible, too.  When they are all in his room, I have to spray in there when they leave.
