My son and my stepson both live with us.  My son is always freespirited and his son is always depressed.  He never sees anyone in his family except his dad and once or twice a year his grandmother {by marriage} other than that no one his mom is an addict who cares only about herself.  So i understand the depression but I cant help but show my son more attention because he is so much more upbeat.  His son also seems to resent me.  He used to back talk me all the time until his father stepped in and took control of him now he is always secluded and to himself so if my son is the one who wants my attention he gets it.  His son never seems to want any attention from anyone other than his dad.

They are all loved equally but not the same, if that makes any sense....there are times when this one needs more of a resource (time, money, freedom, limits, etc, etc) and times when someone else's needs rise. But they love always flows to each. It's a miracle to me how much love there is! I feel like if I had ten, there'd just be that much more and they'd all be special in their own way.

Each of my kids has parts of their personality that I total click with, and parts that, quite honestly grate on my nerves, but I absolutely LOVE being with each and every one of them.  Each night I whisper into each of their ears as I tuck them in for the night "You are my favorite "name" in the whole wide world."  And I mean it.  There is no other Shayna, Eli or Logan that I love more.

I don't play favorites but my kids do....my youngest gravitates towards me and the 16yr old towards my husband....it works when everything is happy but once one of them has an issue they try to work us over....but my husband and I have figured it out over the years and stop it in its tracks....teamwork!
